'Bears with Beer Mugs' Macarons

I had some leftover macaron batter from my Totoro macaron bake to play with so I made these bears :).

Cheers! *Clink*

You can almost hear the sound of beer mugs clinking :p. The irony of these bears is they are not filled with alcohol but tea flavoured filling! I was laughing when the irony struck me :D. The tea flavoured filling was kind of accidental. I had some leftover from filling snowflake macarons.

Please refer to the recipe for Totoro macarons for these. Check out my first ever video tutorial for macaron making if you need more visuals for macaronage process and testing of batter consistency. Only thing to take note is to pipe on the bear snout and limbs 15 minutes after piping on the body base. Use Wilton #5 tip for piping small parts and Wilton #12 tip for the body.

Freshly baked shells!

Use royal icing to pipe out the beer mugs onto baking sheet. I used a template under the baking sheet for this. You may oven dry the mugs with fan mode at 50°C to speed up the process. Remove only when thoroughly dry. About an hour of oven drying.

Use black edible marker to draw on the facial features. Brush on some peach coloured lustre dust for rosy cheeks. Stick the mugs on with royal icing and let the bears air dry.

Extra mugs of beer!

Fill the shells. I filled with Earl grey white chocolate and Matcha white chocolate leftover from making snowflake macarons. These macarons do not require refrigeration too.

Happy bears!

I had lots of fun with these :). So did my kids! Yes I let them eat tea flavoured bakes :p.

With love,
Phay Shing
